Influenza and Other Viral Infections

This course covers the mode of transmission and mitigation strategies for four common viral infections seen in the post-acute setting. Learners will learn to identify outbreaks and employ mitigation strategies for influenza (flu), severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and norovirus infections, using techniques that may also be helpful when addressing emerging infections. Techniques used to minimize transmission in congregate living situations, such as skilled/long-term care facilities, and group homes, are also reviewed.
