Communicating with Individuals Living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia

This course provides important information about the communication needs of clients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) or other dementias. Discusses how communication happens normally and how it is affected by AD. Teaches how to help clients communicate and ways to better communicate with clients. In addition, it includes information on how to handle a client’s anger, how to answer tough questions, and alternative therapies that assist with communication.

  • Describe the typical course of events that must take place for communication to be successful.
  • Describe two things that can make communication challenging for people living with Alzheimer’s.
  • List at least three things you can do to communicate more effectively with your clients living with Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Practice patient and thoughtful communication in your daily work with Alzheimer’s clients.
