Though seniors typically hire a home care service to meet their basic needs, leading providers take a more comprehensive approach to care, striving to meet their clients’ physical, cognitive, and social needs as well.
This approach can be more complex and time consuming, but it is highly rewarding for both clients and caregivers. As you work to promote a client’s overall health, you may want to try a variety of stimulating activities that clients and caregivers will both enjoy. Here are a few simple activities for boosting physical, cognitive, and social health:
Physical activity
Exercise doesn’t need to be boring or even overly strenuous. Try to mix it up by getting outside, watching video exercise classes, or trying a new routine. If the senior has fun as they get moving, they’ll be more likely to want to do it again.
Cognitive activity
Cognitive activities should stimulate the creative and problem-solving parts of the brain. These activities often allow the senior to create something new, which is both engaging and rewarding.
Social activity
Maintaining a healthy social life with age is an important element for avoiding depression and depleted physical health in later years. As seniors meet with neighbors, friends, and family (even if it’s online), they boost their emotional and mental health.
Encourage caregivers to be creative in the way they care for clients. As they do so, your caregivers will be more engaged in their work, and your clients will be happier and healthier. When clients become more invested in their personal care, their physical, mental, and social well-being will improve, and they’ll be more invested in your company and its services.
