Professional Boundaries for Clinicians

This course covers the purpose of understanding and maintaining professional boundaries and the role of professional boundaries in creating and maintaining therapeutic relationships. Best practices and tips for success are covered. Risk factors, red flag behaviors, and the consequences of crossing professional boundaries are reviewed.

List three reasons professional boundaries are necessary. Identify elements of a therapeutic relationship in patient scenarios. Distinguish between boundary crossing and boundary violation. List four “red flag” behaviors. Distinguish between positive clinician behaviors and behaviors that place patients and clinicians at risk.
